New Farm, New Hunt Club, New People
Eight months ago, the journey began to build a premier hunting club for a select group of individuals—not for fame or fortune, but because of their hardworking mindsets, great personalities, and shared love of duck hunting.
As someone fairly new to duck hunting, I’ve been like a sponge, absorbing the knowledge shared by people like Steve, Mike, and Ty. I can honestly say that over the past two years, I’ve become a much better hunter because of these individuals.
Having leased a property nearby for several years, Mike was very familiar with the area. He had long dreamed of owning his own piece of paradise. After a set of unfortunate circumstances led to the end of his lease, fate stepped in. A neighboring property became available, and Mike seized the opportunity to own it.
With the papers signed, the hard work was about to begin.
In May 2024, the land—previously unmanaged—needed to be quickly prepared. With the help of a small group and some hired hands, a plan was set in motion, and the team got to work. Long, hot summer days were spent organizing supplies and making improvements, all with one goal: to get the land “ready to be hunted.”
As most hunters know, the first year on a new property is a learning experience, and this one was no exception. We made our best educated guesses about where the ducks would be and set out to hunt accordingly. There were some great mornings and some tough outings, but not a single hunt went by without us learning something new.
Overall, it was a fantastic first season hunting ducks and geese on the farm. I want to give a special shoutout to Mike Newsome and Ty Hitmaker for welcoming me into the club!
Here’s a recap of the year:
